Columbia University in the City of New York offers a fully funded PhD in Islam. This field seeks to train specialists in Islamic Studies. The program is designed to prepare students to teach and do research in the history, cultures, languages and literatures, doctrines and ritual practices, as well as the social and political articulations of Islam. This sequential program begins with an MA and MPhil and culminates in a PhD. Students admitted to the PhD program will receive a fellowship that covers tuition and fees plus a stipend for living expenses for five years. This support includes work as a teaching assistant for six semesters.
